Trash Talking

Trash Talking

Is it taught, are you born with it, can you develop it, can you practice it. How does one become a trash talker? I have played sports my entire life and have rarely talked trash. Whether it was the circumstances in which I was raised or just my own conscience as I was beginning to navigate the world. Trash talking was never appealing to me, it always seemed to me like those players who chose to talk copious amounts of trash just were not good players. They couldn't let their "game" do the talking for them so they were trying to overcompensate with talking trash. (We all know that one guy always overcompensating) Now as I have gotten older I have come to realize that trash talking is such an underrated part of sports. Many might not realize that sports is just as much mental as it is physical. With that being said, the right amount and the correct words can make a good player better. Not because he gains additional skill from talking trash but he can get into the opponents head and make his opponent question his entire life. Whether you tell him his jump shot is trash, or he can't hold onto the ball, or if your like Jalen Ramsey you just say "your trash" and leave it at that. So next time your out practicing a sport or playing in a competition remember to also practice your trash talking, it just might be the difference maker.
